Celtic Enchantment Cruise, 2013
No, this wasn't a cruise featuring members of the
We had originally booked a 7-day Caribbean cruise on
Holland America with my
brother Ed for the week between Christmas and New Years (he is a teacher). A
month or so before we departed, we were informed the cruise was over-sold, and
asked if we wanted to rebook a different cruise, with Holland America picking up
the cost differential. After a few days, we decided to take their 14-day Celtic
Enchantment cruise instead. We sailed on the
Prinsendam, the smallest ship in their fleet with only 800 passengers.
The cruise departed Amsterdam on Monday, August 5th and returned to Amsterdam
August 19th. In-between, we visited the following ports:
- Milford Haven, Wales
- Liverpool, England
- Dublin, Ireland
- Galway, Ireland
- Foynes, Ireland
- Cobh, Ireland
- St. Peter Port, Gurensey
- Plymouth, England
- Brugge, Belgium
This wasn't (supposed to be) a photography cruise. In fact, I brought my camera body, but the wrong battery charger, and forgot the lens!
What follows are some of the highlights.
We arrived at our hotel late Saturday afternoon, but just in-time for Gay Pride festivities. It was only a couple blocks from the main stage.
This was the only port at which the ship remained docked overnight.
Brazen Head - Ireland's Oldest Pub
Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled
Flying Boat Museum
FOTA Wildlife Park
Despite the generally overcast weather on the trip, with temperatures
generally just under 20C (68 F), this was in fact the only day it rained on us.
